In the wake of the now-bountifully-bipartisan sex scandals afflicting American politicians, one has to assume there is an inevitable link between intense moralism (as opposed to morality), the drive to seek public office in the US, and the compulsion to purchase sex.

Something about power being the ultimate aphrodisiac, no doubt.
I dunno. I mean, why do they have to pay for it then?
I am impressed by the fact that Spitzer paid one thousand dollars for a night with this woman. If you have to throw your career away, you might as well do it properly. If it had a fifty-dollar crack whore, it would have added meanness to the whole sorry saga.
I hope he was a good Democrat and made sure they had health insurance first. Also, were they unionized?
I’m not sure that was the kind of union that was in the front of his mind…
There was another labor-related question that occurred to me. Apparently the hourly rates ranged from $1000 (or €700) to $3100 (or €2200). Is that prezzo incluso or would a gratuity be expected? Pretty soon we could be talking about real money here.
“If it had been a fifty-dollar crack whore, it would have added meanness to the whole sorry saga.”
Well, the $50 crack whore might have been less likely to be involved in a money-laundering scheme of the Gambino crime family, and also less likely to have travelled across state lines for sexual purposes (a violation of Federal law). And Spitzer would have been able to boast of his fiscal restraint…
Support the working class?

And stimulate the economy! As it were.
